Kate Blanche is first and foremost a mother of four young children. She runs an Organic farm with her husband Michael, and her own fledgling business making custom-blended, luxury Organic skin-care, for private clients.
Kate is a qualified Primary Teacher, with an Honours degree in Physical Education and Outdoor Recreation. Before Motherhood, she held several school policy making posts in Environmental Studies and Social and Emotional Development. Her last job in Education was in a school for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties. There, she learned to view time spent outdoors as a therapy for her students and of as equal importance to time spent learning in class.
She considers herself lucky to have spent a “wild, outdoorsy and sometimes hair-raising childhood” in several very different countries. Reef explorations in Fiji, getting chased by Meringue thieving Emus in Australia, discovering a 5 ft Python behind her garage in Hong Kong and her first walk through a Bluebell forest in Scotland, are all memories she fondly cherishes. These memories inspire her to encourage and give her children the freedom to play, explore, experience and therefore learn, from the Natural World around them.
Kate and I were friends & neighbors back in Scotland. We lived in a beautiful rural part of the country and spent many hours in a day with seven children between us, laughing, sharing fears and tears, exploring nature and all it’s treasure.
Kate is an amazing – warm, affectionate woman, wonderful mother, highly creative and gives so much of her time to helping others and her community.
Can’t wait for Kate to start blogging.
We hope to have a bi-monthly entry from Kate on our Little Humbugs website – parent/teachers. First post will cover – why outdoor education is just as important as learning in class .
With a growing interest from teachers and home educators we are compiling a new teachers section on the Little humbugs website and hope to have it up and running in September. Please email me direct if you would like to contribute or have any comments on the teachers section: info@littlehumbugs.com
