Baby Quail Needs a Helping Hand

My teenage son was about to play basketball with his friend when they spotted this little one….

Poor wee thing was shivering and seemed disorientated.

No sign of the parents so I picked it up and it quickly disappeared up my sleeve. The baby Quail seemed to relax and enjoy the warmth of  my sleeve.

The teenagers were as curious as the little chick was.

It was very tempting to keep the little Quail but I knew it would have a better chance of survival if we left it outdoors. I placed it in the bushes where I knew the Quails in the garden frequently patrolled. The little chick headed off happy to be undercover.

Lucy the Bird Keepers tip:

If you find an abandoned baby bird-do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched. If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it’s best chance of survival.
