Connecting Children With Nature Book Launch

BOOK LAUNCH

I am super excited to announce the launch of my new children’s book “Orange Moon and the Grandmother Tree”.

I am looking for 5 reviewers to review my picture book which launches on 27th January 2012.

Just answer the question below:

“What was your favourite OUTDOOR activity as a child?”

Book Summary:

Say hello to Orange Moon who, with a full heart and the magic of nature at her fingertips, is always on the lookout for her next great outdoor adventure.

Summer has finally arrived and the meadow flowers are calling. Orange Moon hurries out for a day of play when a mysterious woman and an enchanted pendant lead her to an old man filled with heartache. Through the magic of love and her special connection with the Grandmother Tree, Orange Moon sets out on an adventure to heal the spirit of her new-found friend.

“WONDER” – Wonder is the source of all spiritual growth.

Sunbeams kissed her face as she danced her way through the wildflowers, leaving pathways of swaying rainbows that seemed to flow from her long brown hair. As she continued to dance through the meadow, Ellouise thanked the flowers for their beautiful colours, for their lovely fragrances and for filling her heart with so much happiness. After some time, Orange Moon settled down amongst the Echinacea flowers, and gazed in wonderment at their beauty.

Connecting Children With Nature

I have incorporated several nature based crafts relating to the story. This is a wonderful way to actively engage children with nature and nurture their creative intelligence.

  1. Making mini gardens in a silver tray on Easter Day with my sister. We would have things like little gravel paths, patches of soil and daisies. Mum would be the judge and the winner got a bowl of sultanas.

  2. My favourite outdoor activity as a child was climbing trees and staying there all day, watching the world go by. x

  3. I would love to review your book! I have so many great outdoor activity memories from when I was a child (and even now as an adult with my own children), but my favorites are probably hiking and camping.

  4. My favourite memories include exploring the woods and streams around the “cottage” our family owned in the woods. We called it a camp. Not sure what people in other parts of the world call their forest get-a-ways!

  5. As a kid, I loved playing in the dirt in our expansive backyard. It seems so simple when I look back on it now, but dirt in all forms fascinated me for hours. I would LOVE the opportunity to review your latest creation & share it with my readers. Hugs to you on this wonderful new endeavor!

  6. Wonderful story about a girl with long brown hair, hanging long like mine did. One of my favorite outdoor play games was taking a stick and ‘tracing’ the deep cracks rain made in the clay soil, imagining somehow that I could take a spoon and dig to China! I would be honored to review your book.

  7. When I was a child my sister and I would wonder the small wooded area around the house (of couse we thought it was HUGE!) We would climb trees and eat things from the garden and play in the creek…the days were never long enough…

  8. My best friend and I had an ongoing drama played out on my friend’s farm in the middle of our small hometown for six years. The empty field between our homes was where the magical transition into the playful storyline happened. The natural landscape along the creek and the old homestead set the stage for our ongoing childhood drama. We even had a Grandmother Tree on the bank of the creek!

  9. So many of my childhood activities centered around playing outdoors, from watching the birds, getting to know the different butterflies, chasing fireflies, but my favorite I think is lying among the wildflowers watching the ants and other meadow critters go about their daily lives. As adults we need to remember these times and our connection with the nature around us, to be present in the moment with the beauty and wonder of the natural world.

I’m so excited to read about Orange Moon and Ellouise!

Wishing you a beautiful day and hope you get to make a few more mini gardens. Happy Tuesday! Love and peace, Marghanita x

  23. Oh dearest Caro, we are so alike. Most of my childhood was spent up a tree or on my bike. My favourite tree was one of the tall Silver-birch in our back garden. It was where I escaped from my three boisterous brothers and imagined all sorts of wondrous places. Thank you for reminding me of such magical, heart warming memories. You know of-course you were on my list to review!!!! Wishing you a delicious day in the garden Love and peace, Marghanita xx

  24. My Beautiful Goddess Marghanita, The beauty I have witnessed as your story unfolded into a gift of our true Mother Nature bringing to life our little Orange Moon, it brings the memories as a wee child dancing among the fields of daffodil’s singing “We All Live In A Yellow Submarine”and “Oh Sweet-pea Won’t You Dance With Me”…. I used to do just that, run out of the house barefoot into my fathers fields of daffodils and tulips and spend hours in my own little fairytale…. I cannot wait to take part in helping to take this to the world of children, just awaiting to be introduced to little Orange Moon and sharing in your beautiful dream of bringing our children back to the love in the world of nature….. Your heart shines with such a glow my beautiful friend you want to just pick up and hug little Orange Moon as she portrays the love you share each and everyday to not only our children, but too to bringing alive the child with in each and everyone of us…. I look to the moon tonight in all her glory and whisper thank you, for the miracle you are, you are the gift…. Kerry

  25. I’d love to review your book! My favorite outdoor activity as a kid was camping. We would spend a week each summer (and maybe a couple weekends) in Yosemite, Sequoia National Park, Lake Tahoe or some other beautiful place. It’s where I first attended ranger programs which ultimately led me to become a ranger and interpreter as an adult.

As much as wandering around on granite slabs and learning the Latin names of trees was wonderful, it was also about bonding with my mom and brother. My mom, a single mom, worked all week, so it was special one-on-one (or one-on-two…I had a brother ;) with mom.

  26. Thank you for sharing such an intimate story Mel. Spending time outdoors is a beautiful and magical way to really bond with your family. Camping was a big favourite of mine too. I am so thrilled you were able to follow your passion and make it your career. What you gift the world is magical. I would love you to review my book.

  27. So glad I’ve found you! I’m a fellow Canadian, grew up on a farm, and was often roaming through the maple bush or the swamps on our property. Many of my memories have to do with “collecting.” I remember picking up handfuls of worms, putting them on baking trays, and making “cities” of dirt for them to crawl around. I also remember going out after a rain – my brother and I would pull the wagon around the gravel pit, picking up tiny little toads and setting them in the wagon. We’d also put a big bucket on that wagon and fish for tadpoles. I loved watching those tadpoles grow legs and become little frogs.

Possibly I’m too late here, but I’d love to at least get my hands on your book – if not review it!

  28. Oh Rebecca what magical childhood memories. Thank you for sharing. Mud pies were a favourite of mine too and as an adult I had the wonderful experience of pretend tasting all my children’s delightful mud creations…JOY!!!
