Earth Machine Demand – A Sign of the Times

by Marghanita on April 5, 2009

Crowds queued for hours in Kelowna for their Earth Machine. Change was evident as the crowds grew to purchase their new compost bin “the Earth Machine”. On Saturday morning my husband and I joined the masses to purchase our Earth Machine – backyard composter. From the young and hip to the not so young and hippy, men women and children with smiles across their faces – happy to be part of the growing movement and being socially responsible.

Some people queued for up to 45 minutes in order to grab their $37 compost bin and the organisers were expecting a sell out of around 1500 units. The sun was shining and there was a real buzz in the air as people really got behind what is a big step forward to reducing household waste.

The assembly was straight forward and I think our dog was duly impressed!  We have since started putting our food scraps into the composter, our dog seems a little dissappointed as I think he thought it was a giant dog feeder!
