Outdoor Family Fun: Treasured Memories

Treasured Memories on Film

Our children really miss their cousins back in Scotland. They were very close and spent a lot of time outdoors together. So when it comes to one of their cousins birthdays, our kids  love to create mini movies for them-a special keep sake gift. (They have acted out a rock band video, James Bond video, trampoline videos & endless amounts of lego videos to name but a few). Our eldest son is the main cameraman, it’s good practice for him-he starts his Digital Film making college course next October.

This month it is their cousin – Amber’s  Birthday. Jasmine and Sam decide it would be cool to write a message for Amber on the beach. So we head down to Bertram Park…

The filming ends with us all singing Happy Birthday on the beach.  Lot’s of outdoor fun had by all – time to head  home.

Back home, the film is edited, music added then burned onto a CD. Samuel and Jasmine design a front cover for the CD.

Another treasured moment outdoors and a special keep-sake gift for their cousins.

I wonder what mini film our kids will want to make for their cousin Jules- who’s birthday is next month.

What mini movie would your kids like to make?

Our children s mini movies are their very own creation- from writing the story/script, filming, acting, editing to designing the CD cover. Obviously if your children are younger then they will need  supervision but any age will have fun participating, however small their input. Acting out plays help young children learn and retain new words.

Let their imaginations run wild…Imagination helps children grow up to be adults who are creative thinkers.

Creativity, imagination, problem-solving, technology intergration, play with natural loose parts, cooperative work/play—-and fun! This is an educator’s dream project.
And it makes my “mom heart” sing!
Thanks for sharing, Marghanita : )

Thank you Vicki-so delighted your heart is singing! This kind of project is so much fun for kids of all ages and the possibilities are endless. I’m hoping to do some storytelling workshops to include some film work too. Now that our children are older, it’s a joy to watch them put the whole project together on their own.

That is great, I love parks. But I’ve also thought about turning my backyard into a playground, too!
