Recycled Art – Ice Fun with Nature

by Marghanita on December 13, 2009

Ice-art-1

We filled old sellotape rolls with water, placed nut shells and cones from Sam’s nature collection then left the recycled cylinders outside in the freezing temperatures and let Mother Nature do her Magic…..

It was two of my wonderful nature loving twitter friends: @wildchild and @activekidsclub- that inspired us to make some ice ornaments. We decided to put our own slant on it by using a few recycled items like sellotape cylinders. We wanted to use items we could sit on a table or railing etc, not necessarily having to hang them up.

Sam added some Rowan Berries (Mountain Ash) and a drop of red food coloring.

Sam used a cookie cutter (Candle shape) which worked really well. His Gingerbread man broke when trying to get him out of the cutter.

Add some Christmas lights behind and watch your nature ornaments sparkle their magic!

This is such a wonderful activity to do with your family- kids of any age can get involved. You could experiment with all kinds of recycled items.

Surrounded by our delightful creations – our hot chocolate tasted extra special this evening.

These are gorgeous! Nothing beats the beauty of nature, eh? There must be some icy vibes in the air – I just finished some ice art over here too! How awesome :)

Marghanita, these are gorgeous. You are so creative. I’m inspired. I wish I had some rowan berries.

These are beautiful! What a great idea! I wish our temperatures got cold enough for something like this.

What a great idea! I love the lights behind them. It is now 40 degrees F here (after being below zero for two weeks) so our ice ornaments have all melted. But now I more ideas when it freezes again!

Thanks Mel, it was your wonderful ice ornaments @wildchild.com along with @activekidsclub that inspired us to go have fun with Ice. It was such a success, we are trying out other recycled items this weekend. Will let you know how we get on.
