Marghanita Hughes

A Mother, an Artist and facilitator for joy filled Learning through creative, soulful experiences. Marghanita moved from Scotland to the Okanagan 17 years ago. As an artist, I look at nature, as I did as a child, with a sense of wonder, fascination and connection. Seeing with heart and soul. Seeing everything as if it were the first time, with an open heart. The natural world is constantly whispering to my soul. Nature provides an abundance of stimuli and evokes excitement and curiosity - inviting me to investigate.

Growing up in the Scottish countryside, I explored, and gathered from the natural world. I touched, held, and responded to things, in an intimate and personal way. Gaining a sense of connection with these living beings and the surrounding natural environment. I continue to view and look at the world in this way, revelling in the majestic wilderness of British Columbia with a deep love and respect and appreciation. My art is a way of trying to capture the experiences, the feelings evoked and paying homage to our sacred connection. A connection that is vital to our survival!

I feel there is an inner need in all of us to be creative, to seek and capture the beauty and wonder of the natural world - we are part of nature and as young children, we are very much aware of this connection.  Art is a language, a thread, a way of communicating, a bridge that connects us to the source, to our true self, to nature. A language I have understood ever since I was a young child. A language I love and use to document my life experiences. In my art I wish to cerebrate our sacred connection with our Mother Earth and all her inhabitants.
