Mother Nature was Calling us Home

February 03, 2024

Finally, I have some time to edit our 3 years of travelling around British Columbia and I am excited to share some of my art adventures, the highs and lows of van life and what we have learned. Here’s a little into…(video below)

Embarking on the winding roads of British Columbia, Canada, our trusty companion Indigo became not just a van but a vessel for creativity and self-discovery. As two creatives seeking solace and inspiration, we left the hustle behind, choosing the untamed wilderness as our canvas.

Mother Nature, the ultimate muse, transformed her art studio daily, and I, a humble artist, reveled in the ever-changing masterpiece. At first, conducting nature art sessions online seemed like a paradox – a digital bridge to the wild. Yet, the bears feasting on wild blackberries, the roaring waterfalls, and the soothing ocean became my collaborators. From Kandinsky-inspired earth paint sessions to beachside curry cooking escapades, every moment was a stroke on the canvas of our van life.

The rugged coastline of the Pacific West unfolded before us, the dancing cedars of Vancouver Island inspiring modules, and the Okanagan's nature hunts leading us to unexpected treasures. In New Denver, fairies came to life on canvas, while Tofino's seaweed danced in vibrant hues. Forest Friday mandalas in Whistler and dragonfly rescues on Kentucky Lake became chapters in our nomadic saga.

Waking up to the sacred songs of whales at 5 am and witnessing bald eagles feasting on washed-up octopus, we felt not like spectators but participants in nature's grand theater. Heat waves and wildfires became challenges, forcing us to find innovative ways to cool down while staying connected to the land we roamed.

Our journey had no blueprints; instead, we followed the whispers of Mother Nature, guiding us to uncover sacred stories and weave our narratives. Always mindful that living the experience was more important than documenting it, we lived van life to its fullest, absorbing the lessons the wild had to offer.

Three years on the road unfolded like a living, breathing novel, revealing a simpler, healthier, and more content way of life. In the heart of British Columbia, we found more than just landscapes; we discovered the profound connection between humanity and nature.

As we share our adventures, highs, and lows, we acknowledge the ancestral ties of the Indigenous peoples to this land, respecting their wisdom and honoring their ongoing relationship with the natural world. Our journey was not just a physical one; it was a spiritual exploration, a dance with the untamed forces that shaped us into the storytellers of our own van life odyssey.
